Art Created by Artificial Intelligence: Creative Software

AARON is the first screensaver to utilize artificial intelligence to continuously create original paintings on a PC. The program has so far evolved through four major phases:
1. Full frontal presentation of simple but evocative shapes (approximately 1973 -1978).
2. More complicated shapes with a primitive sense of perspective (approximately 1979-1984).

3. Figurative drawings in more sophisticated visual space (approximately 1985 - 1988).
4. Figures executed using a fully three-dimensional knowledge base (beginning approximately 1989).
5. Capability to draw and color all of the above (approximately 1990 - to present).
You can download a trial version of Aaron here.

Evolutionary Art
Evolutionary Art relies on Darwin's theory to "select" and "breed" desirable traits in images. Once the selection is performed by the software or through the input of a human artist, a new generation of images is created using the "genes" of the selected images. In theory, successive generations should produce more appealing art.

Morph Lab

This site demonstrates simply how Evolutionary art works. Just click the square containing the image you want to propogate, and the next generation appears. After a few clicks you'll have something looking like a snowflake or a tree. You can breed them tall or short, fat or thin.

Organic Art
is a program that creates three-dimensional organic shapes with fractals. Millions of combinations of "genes" evolve over generations. Simple shapes such as eggs or cubes are grown into complex organic 3D forms that can be mutated and transformed
