Shtuff

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Hello!

I tried something a little different tonight, a kindof manga inspired painting. Im gonna do more to this, I like where its going, I just need to work out what to do with those legs and the background etc. Also, It needs more contrast.

The sketchy painty sepia image is also something different to what I usually do - creature sketches. Im working on some alien concepts for the CGsociety challenge.

Ive also got some sketches too! Was out sketching today with some mates. Observational drawing. I was trying out biro sketching, and some graphite stick sketches.

Unfortunately I cant seem to arrange my images in the way I would like. So I will have to make do with this messy layout. Ah well.

Im back! With sketchy painty doodly things

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Hello! Phew! Its been ages since I last posted. The reason? I felt like a break from drawing and painting. I needed a wee rest. Burnt out maybe. Sometimes I just need to get away from drawing and do something different.

But now I'm getting back into painting. This first sketch was just an idea I had in me head. Its unfinished, I kinda hit a dead end with it. Im waiting on some inspiration before finsihing it. As for the other images, they are all speed sketches I did today for the new Cgsociety challenge. Check out the challenge here: CHALLENGE!

At the moment I am just messing with ideas drawing anything and everything, seeing what happens. I dont care if they are rubbish, I draw em anyway its good to get the juices flowing. The Gorilla one was inspired style-wise by Andrew Jones . He has quite a unique technique and I found it quite liberating and experimental when I tried it out. I may implement it more often.

Anyhoo, I must say thanks again to everyone who drops by my blog and for all the kind comments. It very much appreciated. Hopefully Ill be back to posting regularly again. Unless I need another drawing holiday :D

life drawing again

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Hello fellow bloggers!

A few images to share tonight. Its all life drawing and observational drawing. Continuing to experiment, trying to challenge myself a bit too, I dont wanna get stuck in a rut!

Also I set up a sketch group here recently for observational drawing practice - its something I reaaalllly need to do more of. As you can see my observational sketches are a little erm rusty haha. Hopefully a bit of practice will sort that out.

ANyhoo for those interested check out the sketch group scotland blog! www.sketchgroupscotland.blogspot.com

Creep

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Me again! Just a little digi sketch ive been workin on. I borrowed a book from the library on the work of John Singer Sergent - his paintings are phenomenal! I love his use of colour and his technique. His work is the main inspiration of this piece.

Will probably do more to it. It was more of a study in technique than anything else.

Not much else to report....

Hello hello!

Not much to update with today - just a portrait from portrait class. This pose was about 3 hours roughly over two classes. I used brown col-erase, brown conte, some black and white watercolour pencils and a hint of redy orange pencil which isnt very visable from this photo.

When I get the chance I will try scanning it see if it turns out better.

Thanks for visiting everyone! More stuff coming soon

Happy Belated Chinese New Year

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Happy Chinese New Year!

Or should I say a belated one? Yeh Im a little late hehe but been a little busy.

This is a quick sketch I did and threw some colour on tonight in celebration. I dont usually celebrate Chinese New Year, but this year I went to the local student union where the Dundee University Malaysian Society were having a New Year party. Lots of food and Jackie Chan movie made a great night haha!

One year I would love to spend Chinese New Year in Malaysia with my girlfriend. Im sure that would be an experience and a half. Anyhoo this pic was loosely based on a photograph I took in China of a girl dressed pretty much like that. She was being paid to of course. For the tourists. I love the old Chinese style costumes. Very cool.

Ok Happy New Year to all the Chinese bloggers out there, and everyone else who celebrates New Year at this time!

Sketchys!

yo!

Whoa!!! Whata busy week! Im exhausted. The Projector animation festival was awesome, I got a lot out of it, saw some amazing speakers and learnt a lot:

Acting for animators - Ed Hooks was giving a class on acting... for animators! I have read his book, seeing him in person really helped clarify what he was saying.

Sharon Coleman - A Scottish lass who now works for Dreamworks in LA! It was great hearing how she got to where she is now. And her short film Badgered is great.

Bill Plympton - Need I say more?? What an awesome guy. Love his work. And he gave EVERYONE a signed postcard. Respect

There were many other great things goin on, but I wont list everything here. Some fantastic films were screened, and on Friday night, a great party where we could doodle on the walls! Every part should be like that.

Phew!! Time to relax. Here are some drawings. The one above is of a really old man I saw in Dundee. He was sitting drawing with pastels in his sketchbook. I love to see other people drawing out and about. Inspiring!

This image is from portrait class. It is only half finished and unfortunately will have to remain as such. I was all prepared to go to my weekly portrait class after the Ed Hooks talk, but it started late and overran, so I missed my class! Ah well.

I was experimenting with pastels in this one. Needless to say, I didnt enjoy the messyness and lack of control, so i resorted to using pastels AND coloured pencils in this image. Trying to improve colour etc.

And the last image! Well, Bill Plympton was selling some of his sketches for a measly 5 quid. So I bought one and had him sign it. This is it - whoa!!! How exciting. For me anyway :D
