Which artists have most influenced your work, and who are your favorite artists?
I think that no artist influenced my work. My art is a product of every day banal things (good and bad, small or big, important or not) that I “filter” in my brain and put on peace of paper. Maybe that’s a selfish thing to say but I get inspiration in other stuff not art. I respect the art from S. Dali, M.C. Escher, Giger, and Brom. Those guys are best in their work and know the real way of showing art.
Describe your creative process. Do you start with images or ideas?
Little bit of both, when I draw I must have my cigarettes on the left , my rapidografs on the right , music in my ears (metal,hc) and then I am in my “workspace”. I always start to draw one thing and finish something completely different. I use 2-3 inspirations in one drawing and combine them; I think the drawing tells a better story this way.
What tools do you use in your work?
I use A4, A3 thicker paper or just the regular one. I have a nice set of ink rapidografs that I needed in school for drawing schemes. They draw lines from 0, 1 to 0.7 mm thick. The most important tool I use is my Brain and my right arm (b.t.w. it’s broken at the time).
Does inspiration come to you or do you actively seek it? If so, how?
I don’t think much about the inspiration. I think I find inspiration in my and others flaws. When I’m in my “workspace” inspiration comes in a moment. Some pictures are inspired by the true emotions, and some are just inspired by things that happen every day for a 1000 times. I like to use themes of irony and humane mortality in my pics, one thing makes you laugh, and other one makes you die. Combined makes you die laughing : )
When did you begin practicing your art and how did you learn?
I never went to drawing school or stuff like that. One day 3 years ago I just started to draw a guy on a peace of paper, then the environment around him. I liked the drawing and I continued to draw and now I love it. Unfortunately I don’t have drawing education, just read some drawings books. I would love to get a chance to learn.
Is there one piece that is special to you, or that you particularly enjoyed creating?
My favorite picture is MONKEY FISHING. I like this one because it’s the drawing where you can see the usage of rapidografs. You see thinner and thicker draw strokes best on this one. This is the drawing with immortal theme. The drawing shows stupidity and greed; the monkey represents us people.
